"Everyone needs a place to call home"
Friends in Namibia have brought the "Sion Hostel" orphanage to our attention. It is located approximately 250 km north of the capital city Windhoek in the town of Otjiwarongo. The orphanage accommodates around 80 children aged 6-14, mostly orphans or half-orphans, who live here to attend school in the city. The children mostly come from the nearby rural areas and spend their holidays with their grandparents or other relatives.
While the home receives some government support, its primary funding comes from donations, with major repairs and larger investments consistently posing a financial challenge for the management. Following our Christmas Initiative "Bringing Joy" 2020 project, thanks to your incredible generosity, we collected over €7000, allowing us to give over 1300 gifts to children in Rundu, Namibia. With the remaining funds, we decided to support the Sion Hostel.
We covered the costs for urgently needed repairs to the sanitation facilities, such as fixing leaking showers and faucets. Additionally, we procured 55 bedsheets for the home and provided them with washing powder and cleaning supplies. With these provisions, the orphanage is now well-equipped for the future, offering the children a safe haven during their school years.
