School sponsorships

Once you have submitted your sponsorship application, we will assign your sponsored child to you. As a sponsor, you pay a sponsorship fee of €50 per month (or €25 per month as a partial sponsor, see "What is a partial sponsorship"). If you wish, we can keep you up to date on the progress of your sponsored child so that you can see what your monthly donation is achieving.

You also have the option of contacting your sponsored child by letter. We will check the content of the letter and forward it digitally to the Treehouse Academy, where a teacher will help your sponsored child write a reply.

The Treehouse Academy is a public school and receives no state funding. It is based on a non-profit concept in which some of the pupils pay school fees to enable children from financially weaker families (approx. 25-30% of pupils) to receive a high-quality education. In addition to these sponsored pupils financed by the school concept, other children from financially disadvantaged families can attend the school as sponsored children thanks to the support of the Conambiki sponsors. The monthly sponsorship contribution of €50 corresponds to a reduced school fee and covers the costs incurred by an additional pupil. The number of paying pupils directly influences how many children from financially disadvantaged families can attend the Treehouse Academy. However, no distinction is made in lessons between paying pupils, sponsored children and sponsored children. The aim is for the children to learn together regardless of their socio-economic background.

If parents wish to send their child to the Treehouse Academy but cannot afford the school fees, they are placed on a waiting list. For each new school year, it is determined how many sponsored and sponsor children can be accepted (approx. 25-30% of the pupils). This number depends on the number of paying pupils, as they co-finance the sponsored pupils, as well as on the number of people interested in sponsorship at Conambiki. You can find our current number of sponsored children below under "Project in figures". The director of our partner school, Micha Kühne, is responsible for checking the child's eligibility for sponsorship.

As a rule, your sponsored child starts in kindergarten at the Treehouse Academy and can graduate after the 7th grade. This marks the official end of your sponsorship. However, we offer our sponsored children the opportunity to attend secondary school. You are therefore welcome to support your sponsored child at a secondary school after their time at the Treehouse Academy.

Of course, you also have the option of cancelling your sponsorship at any time with a notice period of four weeks to the end of the month. If a sponsorship is cancelled, Conambiki will bear the school costs until a new sponsor is found so that no sponsored child has to change schools during the school year. Another way in which the sponsorship ends is when the child's financial situation improves and the family is able to pay the school fees themselves.

The sponsorship contribution of €50 per month corresponds to the average expenses per sponsored child for attending our partner school, the Treehouse Academy in Rundu. In addition to attending the school, this includes the cost of the daily hot lunch, school uniform, school materials and individual expenses, depending on the child's needs and family background. By attending school, the child also has access to the Treehouse Academy's leisure activities.

Enabling another child to attend the Treehouse Academy costs us €50/month. In order to be able to admit as many children as possible, we offer the option of partial sponsorship. A child is then sponsored by two independent sponsors who each pay half the sponsorship fee, i.e. €25 per month. Nothing else changes for the sponsor compared to a full sponsorship. They receive the same amount of information about their sponsored child's progress at school.
